XI Chemistry | Environmental Chemistry | Introduction by Ruchi Ma'am
Class XI - Chemistry
Unit 14 - Environmental Chemistry
Introduction to Environmental Chemistry
Enviroment and its Components - Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Lithosphere and Biosphere
Environmental Chemistry
Pollution and Pollutants
Difference between Pollutant and Contaminant
Threshold Limit Value (TLV)
This video is about Environmental Chemistry. Anything around us is environment that includes the components like atmosphere (gasseous envelope), hydrosphere (water), lithosphere (land) and biosphere (living organisms). Our environment is getting polluted due to addition of undesirable substances generated due to natural phenomena or by human activities beyond a certain limit called Threshold Limiting Value(TLV). Contaminants are added to environment only due to human activities.
This Channel initiated by Dr. D. R. Vij (former Professor of Physics, Kurukshetra University, India) primarily aims at taking free education to the doorsteps of learners who for various economic and social factors can not avail benefits of regular coaching.
In view of the congested classrooms coupled with hefty tuition fee, social taboos and hazards of travelling (for girls in particular) this mode of extending education had become a necessity.
This self-learning approach is a definite step towards democratisation of education i.e. taking education even to individuals who staying in remote and far off areas were being deprived of education for no fault of theirs.
Viewers are requested to click LIKE button if they like a video and SUBSCRIBE to this channel to get notifications of more video lessons being uploaded from time to time in future. They are also requested to SHARE videos with nears and dears who can be benefitted.
All video lessons are systematically indexed on the website: www.gianmandir.com wherein one can register free of cost. All videos are also available through our “Gianmandir” APP which can be downloaded from Google Play Store.

XI Chemistry | Environmental Chemistry | Atmospheric Pollution by Ruchi Ma'am
Class XI - Chemistry
Unit 14 - Environmental Chemistry
Atmospheric Pollution
Types of Pollutantas - Primary and Secondary, Biodegradable and non-biodegradable
Pollutants of Atmospnere - CO, CO2, Oxides of Nitrogen and Sulphur
Particulate Pollutants - Solid and Liquid Particles suspended in Air
Harms of the Pollutants
This video is about the atmospheric pollution. Pollutants may be primary and secondary, biodegradable and non biodegradable. Atmospheric pollution is due to gasseous pollutants like oxides of nitrogen and carbon and perticulate like unburnt carbon (soot) and hydrocarbons produced by incomplete combustion of fuels.

XI Chemistry | Phenomenon Associated with Atmospheric Pollution by Ruchi Ma'am
Class XI - Chemistry
Unit 14 - Environmental Chemistry
Some Important Phenomenon Associated with Atmospheric Pollution
Ozone Layer depletion (Formation of Ozone Layer, Causes and Consequences of Ozone Layer Depletion)
Formation of Smog (London or Classical Smog and Photochemical or Los Angeles Smog)
Acid Rain
Green House Effect and Global Warming
This video is about consequences of atmospheric pollution like formation of smog (London or Classical smog and Photochemical or Los Angeles smog), depletion of protective ozone layer (due to freons and nitric oxide) and Green House effect (due to trapping of heat by green house gasses like carbon dioxide, methane and water vapours) .

XI Chemistry | Environmental Chemistry | Water Pollution by Ruchi Ma'am
Class XI - Chemistry
Unit 14 - Environmental Chemistry
Water Pollution
Ground Water Pollution, Lake Water Pollution, River Water Pollution
Sea Water Pollution, Causes of Water Pollution, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)
Eutrophication, International Standard of Drinking Water
This video is about water pollution that includes ground water pollution, Lake water pollution, river water pollution and sea water pollution. These all pollutions are due to sewage and domestic waste, industrial waste, agricultural nutrients, thermal power plants etc. Level of water pollution is measured in terms of Biological oxygen demand (BOD) and Chemical oxygen demand (COD). Presence of non biodegradable land run off of nutrients causes Eutrophication. There are some international standards of safe drinking water .

Soil Pollutants - Industrial, Urban, Radioactive and Agricultural Waters
Control of Environmental Pollution
Green Chemistry
This video is about soil pollution that may be due to industrial, urban , radioactive and agricultural waste like fertilizers, insecticide and pesticides etc. Several practices like recycling of materials and segregation of domestic waste into biodegradable and non biodegradable substances help in controlling the environment pollution. One such method of protecting the environment is use of Green Chemistry.
